Four easy steps to Beautiful lace!!

The dye kit comes with 7 different colors, 6 are used for painting the lace and the brown is used to go over the piece after painting with the other colors to give an "antiqued" look.   The brown mutes the colors.  If you prefer brighter colors you can skip the antiquing step.  The dyes come highly concentrated so a little goes a long long way.     Step 1: wet the lace you are going to paint and lay on a paper towel or towel.   Put several drops of each of the 6 colors in individual cubby holes in the paint tray.   Depending on the look you want to achieve add water at a ratio of 1 part dye to 3-4 parts water.  Place the brown dye in the center and add twice the amount of water that you did with the other colors.
Step 2:  With the small # 3 brush pick up any desired color and paint the lace piece as you choose.  Rinse your brush in water in-between colors to keep each color true.  You may also create new colors by mixing two different colors in a cubby hole.   For example 2 drops of green and 2 drops of blue makes a beautiful teal green.  Add more water for softer hues of color.
Step 3:  After you have painted the piece of lace pick up the larger #6 size brush and dip in the center portion with the diluted brown dye solution.   Lightly go over the entire piece of lace being careful to not go back over a portion once you have stroked it.  When you have covered the piece, set back and look at it and see if you want to add more antiquing to certain areas.   You may also want to go make over certain spots with more of the colors.   Keep in mind that your piece will dry lighter.  It is much like the way blue jeans are when wet opposed to dry.   Now set your piece on a clean dry piece of paper towel and let air dry.

Step4: When the lace is dry it is pretty much colorfast, the ironing is just added insurance.  Set your iron on the heat setting for the fiber content of the lace, for example delicate for rayon, cotton for cotton content, etc.  Repeatedly lift and press the iron on the lace for 1 - 2 minutes until the sheen comes back in the rayon lace.  When using our dye kit to dye your laces, you will retain the sheen and softness of the lace.   This can not be obtained with fabric paints, even if you greatly thin the paints as paint will just set on top of the fibers and not penetrate as our dyes do.
